"We are 'Special Guest', we're happy to be here tonight." - Trey

Because Phish has built a career on playing two-set shows, the single-set shows they have played tend to pale in comparison. The band has generally played it safe when performing for new audiences mostly unfamiliar with their sound, sticking with in-the-box versions of their most accessible material. This holds true when playing festivals in the U.S. or abroad, or playing as an opening act. Although none of the circulating one-set Phish shows from these tours are considered essential listening, here's one that I feel stands out from the rest. '96 was my favorite year for Harry Hood, and this version from does not disappoint. If these Phish hors d'ourves leave you wanting more, you can dig for recordings of Phish jamming with Carlos Santana and his band. Bon appetit!
