The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
BTW part 2, I'm an avowed fan of Martian Monster so you can take this with a grain of salt, but I'm just as excited about that song as any of the new ones from this year, mainly because it's clear that the band themselves do not know what they actually have with this song. They have put it as the closer to a second set (a legendary second set, mind), they have used it as a show opener, and now it's been the sidecar to a huge opening Set 2 jam (and a good and weird one, at that). It's bracing to see a song just get thrown into the mixer like this, and to see them poke and prod at its boundaries, presumably figuring out if and how they should actually break them. Such a great time to be a fan.
