The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Be present. This won't last forever. Enjoy it while it's happening, and be grateful. These were precisely the thoughts that flooded my mind on NYE in Miami time and time again. I found myself in deep contemplation to this end during the transcendent string of Ghost> Theme> Cities, again during the post-ball drop Tweezer, through to the Mike's> 46 Days> Groove, and the second set of night 4. There is a distinct difference between hearing Phish and listening to Phish. In 2015, I'd like to invite all phans, young and old alike, to strive toward listening to Phish and moving away from merely hearing them. Close your eyes, block out all the distractions of the life you temporarily leave behind in that moment, and indulge your spiritual side. As our world becomes increasingly devoid of meaningful experiences due to capitalist automation and bland consumerist culture, rejoice in the authenticity of a Phish show. The boys are as present and in the moment as ever, and you should be too.
