MYSTERY JAM TUESDAY PART 398

Welcome to the 398th edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday, the first and easiest of December. The winner will receive THREE (!) MP3 download codes courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net and our friend @raisinsnacks, who tossed their codes back into the pool for a n00b triple crown this week. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery clip. Each person gets one guess to start – if no one answers correctly in the first 24 hours, I'll post a hint. After the hint, everyone gets one more guess before Wednesday Thursday at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. Good luck!

*Reminder: For the first MJM of each month, only folks who have never won an MJM are allowed to answer before the hint. If you have never won an MJM, please answer as a blog comment below. If you have previously won an MJM, but you'd like to submit a guess before the hint, you may do so by PMing me; once the hint has been posted, everyone should answer on the blog. If that's confusing to you, check out the handy decision tree that I threw together for you. If you're not sure if you've won before, check in the MJM Results spreadsheet linked below.

Answer: Congrats to first-time winner @MindSpin, who broke his account's vow of silence with a mic drop MJM on his first attempt identifying the 12/3/97 "Drowned" on its 22 year anniversary. Will he be a one hit wonder, or will we remember this as the first of many MJMs for him over the coming months? There's only one way to find out: stay tuned Monday Tuesday for MJM399 (are you outta your mind??).

A_Buddhist_Prodigy Okay, @UCPete, I know this is an 'easy' one that I should be able to get and I'm pretty sure this isn't it, BUT it is a pretty good guess!

Doktahgonzo I literally just listened to this Drowned too, gotta love it when you’re late to one that you actually find you can identify (I don’t know how you HoF’ers do it!).

yEEt_1331 I'm waiting for some 3.0 to pop up, because as a 15-year old fan now, and knowing them since I was 3, (since '07, during the Breakup), I know 3.0 like the back of my hand.

Bravo. Goodness indeed. I remember listening to this jam a year or so ago on the ride to work. I hadn't heard it in a while and was actually laughing at one point in the jam. I wonder if the Who ever heard that version or the NYE '95 version.

sympathy granted!! haha

you'll get one some day ... there are three ingredients to winning a MJM: careful listening, good luck, and elbow grease (i.e. searching phish.in like a madman). even having just one of the three ingredients in spades can lead to victory (e.g. you might recognize the exact type of jam from the week the show was played), but learning to leverage all three at once is how folks get to the Hall of Fame :)
