MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 162

Welcome to Phish.net's 162nd Mystery Jam Monday! Because no one was able to ID MJM #161, this week's winner will receive TWO MP3 downloads courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, you'll need to be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. Good luck!

Answer: In the penultimate 1.0-era show that contained the band's lone performance to date of El Paso -- a song also prominently featured in the opening scene of Sunday's Breaking Bad finale -- the 10/6/00 Down with Disease was identified by first-time and two-MP3 winner @itsice1. Great job!

I agree with you here. I guess that cross eyed because it sounded poised for a transition into slave but they crapped out instead. i haven't had a chance to check my work.

PersnicketyJim I'd like to see the percentage of MMJ entries that are type II. I'm curious because I repeatedly waste time figuring out the key of the clip and possible jams. Yes, this is in A, and thus screams Slave or Disease but that line of thinking never seems to work out.

I will say that Trey's tone sounds dirty, 2.0-like.
, comment by pikepredator
pikepredator @persnicketyjim, my first thought was that it had that early-03 sound. which probably means it's 1.0 or 3.0 and is well-chosen.
, comment by andrewrose
andrewrose I think it's 98 or 99. Could be wrong though.

Was a forgettable show, I think, but "fuck, I was there" was just uttered by me as well. Nice work, @itsicel.

mcgrupp81 10/6 was my first show. Sophomore year of college and decided at the last minute to book a cross country flight to San Fran. A wild weekend for sure. Ironic that this show was selected because I was telling my co-worker earlier today. She was eating Starburst and I was telling her how I was introduced to Mamba at this show.

i hate it when that happens. it's even worse when you guess something from a totally different or are just generally completely off base. this is one humbling little game.
