PHISH.NET API UPDATE, FEBRUARY 2012

The Phish.net API is a system for using Phish.net data across the internet on other websites or in mobile apps. There are several dozen websites that use the Phish.net API, sites like Phishvids, where the data is all served up by the Phish.net setlists database. Today, I'm excited to announce some changes to the Phish.net API. Read on for the details.

Firstly, I'm pleased to announce the availability of a new API method, "pnet.shows.links.get." Now you can integrate LivePhish downloads, Phish.net Blog recaps, or even photos directly into your site or app.

More importantly, today I'm announcing the official retirement of the Phish.net API version 1.0. Version 2 of our API has been available for over a year, and soon, I'll begin a massive reworking of our API. Because the API is mission critical for several sites now, this rewrite will phase our support for API 1.0.

The official end of life for API 1 is this Friday, February 24, 2012. Why such a short window? It's our belief that very few people are still using this version of our API, and as such, they either do not intend to update or need a little push. Using the public methods will require only changing a single URL, and everything should work without any other changes.

With our growing Phish side projects catalog, our gold-standard setlists database, and our user system, there are plans to expand the API further in 2012. Stay tuned for updates!

Mike_Soft_G_Gordon Hopefully the phish.net API 2.0 doesn't stray the same path as 1.0 and starts jamming again.....

LOL, I'll always look back nostalgically at API 1.0, I mean there were just so many classic things going on there. Most of you really wouldn't understand it. But we should all be thankful that there's any API at all.

[great work Adam!]

ColForbin API 1.0 had the playfulness that first got me into APIs in the first place, but the deeper jams of API 2.0 is what keeps me coming back for more.

Harpua418 Thanks for the all hard work I'm sure this requires :)

757phan API 1.0 had the sickest type II coding.

johnnyd I'm already looking forward to API 3.0.
Sure it's not 750,000 lines of code, but its tighter. More evolved. @sethadam1 can communicate more ideas and create more functionality in fewer lines of code.

As long as it gets the job done, does it really matter how long it is?

Joonze thanks for all the hard work you guys put into the daily up keep of this awesome site.

Joshftx Here's a python plugin I created for siriserver - a python-based replacement for Siri's backend that you can use on jailbroken iphones. (https://github.com/Eichhoernchen/SiriServer) This allows you to ask Siri things like "Tell me the most recent phish concert" or "Tell me a random phish concert" and Siri will return the proper setlist and show notes. Also supports TIPH.

Thanks for the great API!!
