(Published in the second edition of The Phish Companion...)

I got tremendously lucky and scored front of board tickets for this Santana show. I got to the big dirt hill they call a parking lot at the Greek just a bit late, so I could hear "Poor Heart" being played as I came into the ticket area. The audience was mostly prepared for Santana, so they didn't pay much attention to the band through "Stash". It was hard, I think, for the band to sound good with so many empty seats, but once they got going through "The Squirming Coil", they really had captured the audience. They got a nice ovation at the conclusion of their set, and Carlos went on to rip it up as he can do on any night of the week!
