Thanks very much to Mark L. for the burn. Does anyone have a copy of
this whole show? Mark's battery died during the second set.
Fish lets out an evil cackle in the somewhat halting opening of this
Tweezer. Spectacular screaming ensues after the Uncle Ebeneezer
lyric, as always in early versions (they should bring back this
screaming, IMO.. or at least the audience should!).
Jam segment begins at 4:43 with an immediately subdued, ominous vibe.
After 20 seconds or so, Trey comes in riffing fierce and quick. Mike
simliarly lets loose some snappy, punchy licks. Trey starts soloing
after a few... aimlessly, though. There's no theme. Trey eventually
gets locked in a repetitive, somewhat annoying riff around 7 mins,
which sounds like a tease of something I might be able to identify
were it played in the proper key. Trey continues to tease this theme
for the next minute, which I'd swear was a tease of something (in a
different key), but I can't think of the name it.
At 8:51 the groove blasts back into solid Tweezer jamming, and Fishman
lets loose several more terrifying screams. At 9:30 Trey nails The
Note that signals the dying out of the jam segment ending... and the
jam dissolves. At 10:33, normal for early versions, they launch back
into the Tweezer theme for a few more measures. Total time 11:09.
During the applause, Trey says: "Thank you. That was a late birthday
present for Fish whose birthday was yesterday. 26 years old, let's
hear it for him. One of his favorite songs there. And still
accepting drinks and presents inbetween sets for his birthday those
of you who missed it yesterday. So we're going to do one right now
that Fish wrote. His very own song." "My Sweet One" then starts.
This was an excellent early version of Tweezer, given Fish's mad
cackles and the overall craziness.
two cents,

p.s. Though I wish I could, I can't honor grovels for this show at
this time. For more reviews, many profoundly more interesting than
this one, check out http://www.phish.net/reviews/.
